Privacy Policy
Last updated: July 12, 2026
This Privacy Policy explains how Rumo ("the App", "we", "us") collects, uses, and protects your information. Rumo is developed and operated by an independent developer based in Portugal. We are committed to protecting your privacy and complying with the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and applicable data protection laws.
By using Rumo, you agree to the practices described in this policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the App.
1. Who We Are
Rumo is operated by an independent individual developer (the "Data Controller"). For any privacy-related questions or to exercise your rights, contact us at:
2. Information We Collect
We collect only what is needed to provide the App's features:
- Location data (GPS): Used to provide turn-by-turn navigation, speed camera alerts, road analysis, and trip recording. Location is processed in real time and, when you enable background navigation, continues while the screen is locked. Precise location is essential to the core function of the App.
- Account information: If you create an account or sign in (via email, Google, or as an anonymous user), we process your email address and a chosen username. Anonymous accounts do not require an email.
- Trip and driving data: Distance, duration, speed, routes, driving score, and vehicle information you enter. This data is stored to power your statistics, history, and gamification.
- Emergency contacts: If you add emergency contacts, their phone numbers are stored locally on your device and are only used to send an SMS that you confirm in the event of a detected crash. We do not upload or share these contacts.
- Social features: If you use friends, convoy, or leagues, your username and selected statistics may be visible to other users you interact with.
- Device and diagnostic data: Basic technical information and crash reports to keep the App stable.
- Advertising identifiers: For users on the free plan, advertising-related identifiers may be processed as described in Section 5.
3. How We Use Your Information
- To provide navigation, alerts, and the App's driving features.
- To store your trips, statistics, achievements, and preferences.
- To enable optional social and competitive features.
- To process subscriptions and restore purchases.
- To display advertising to users on the free plan.
- To detect crashes and, only with your confirmation, contact your emergency contacts.
- To maintain security, prevent abuse, and improve stability.
4. Third-Party Services
Rumo relies on the following third-party providers, each with their own privacy policies. Data is shared with them only as needed to provide the relevant feature:
- Supabase — account authentication, database, and real-time features (friends, convoy).
- Mapbox — map rendering.
- Google Maps Platform — routing and place search.
- OpenStreetMap / Overpass — speed camera and road data.
- Open-Meteo — weather and elevation data.
- Open Charge Map — EV charging station data.
- RevenueCat — subscription management (Rumo Pro).
- Google AdMob — advertising for free-plan users (see Section 5).
- Sentry — crash reporting and diagnostics.
5. Advertising and Consent
Rumo displays advertisements to users on the free plan through Google AdMob. Rumo Pro subscribers do not see advertisements.
- Where required by law (including in the EU/EEA), we present a consent request before showing personalised ads, using Google's User Messaging Platform (UMP) and Apple's App Tracking Transparency (ATT) framework.
- If you do not consent, we serve only non-personalised (contextual) ads, which do not rely on your personal data for targeting.
- You can change or withdraw your advertising consent at any time through your device settings (Tracking) and the in-app privacy options where available.
For more on how Google uses data from apps that use its services, see Google's policy.
6. Data Storage and Retention
Much of your data (trip history, preferences, emergency contacts) is stored locally on your device. Account and social data is stored on Supabase servers. We retain data for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the App. You can delete your data at any time from within the App ("Delete all data") or by contacting us.
7. Your Rights (GDPR)
If you are in the EU/EEA, you have the right to: access your data; correct it; delete it; restrict or object to processing; data portability; and to withdraw consent at any time. To exercise these rights, use the in-app options or email us. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority (in Portugal, the CNPD).
8. Children
Rumo is not intended for children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal data from children under 13. The App is rated accordingly. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, please contact us and we will delete it.
9. Security
We use reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect your data, including access controls on our backend. However, no method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
10. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by updating the "Last updated" date above. Continued use of the App after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
11. Contact
